Dr. Linda Mariposa Marangia

Application of sociological thinking and research is the foundation of my teaching philosophy and professional endeavors. I am interested in the topic of "grass-roots" organizational and program development. My background in sociological theory and research methods, coupled with an interest in mass forms of communication in a context of a globalized community leads me to ponder and initiate ways to bridge gaps of understanding within and among diverse populations; develop gentle ways to resolve conflict, and to appreciate the offerings that populations bring to the social table. My substantive background in social stratification and social organization also provides a sensitivity to the concept of social status and privilege and opportunity as a having an impact on communication processes and outcomes.

Since 2001, my professional efforts have been focused on the application of sociology with the arts to promote social change with the mission of respect, reciprocity of viewpoints, and peace. As Founder and Director of MSCD Social Action through Arts Projects, I have spent eight years engaged in applied community outreach projects .
